Playtime Revolution: Murals Can Elevate Ordinary Parks
Mural art adds magic to everyday life. It is an efficient and agile way to elevate playparks.
A touch of whimsy, even a small dose of delight, can make all the difference in urban environments where monotony dulls our senses. Finding cheerful monkeys hanging in an inner courtyard is just that kind of pleasant surprise.
It was a joy for me, too, to incorporate my playful characters on the toy cabin walls at Teurastamo Food & City Culture Hub in Helsinki. I chose burgundy and orange as they fit the cool urban area of the former slaughterhouse but stayed true to my vibrant graphic style and strong compositions. My colleague said she appreciated that I didn’t dumb down this mural, even though it is in a playpark. Sadly, sometimes, people underestimate kids, but art can resonate with people of all ages, it doesn't have to be juvenile if it’s primarily for children.
Moreover, these playful characters serve as catalysts for interaction, inviting people to pause, and perhaps even strike up a conversation with fellow admirers. It was wonderful to see a young girl right next to me watching me intently as I was finishing this piece. In a world where digital distractions often dominate, these real-world connections are invaluable, fostering a sense of belonging and shared experience.
By infusing a sense of playfulness into our surroundings, we've not only brightened up the day but also cultivated a more vibrant and connected community.
Where would you like to see mural art? Let’s make life more joyful!
